What we did

Brief

Wiley first approached us with a vision: to create an ‘origins film’ that would reshape how they are seen by potential publishing partners. The goal was to present Wiley as a valuable collaborator, not a competitor, while addressing shared industry challenges and celebrating Wiley’s unique strengths and longstanding history. The success of this initial animation led to an ongoing partnership. Since then, we’ve delivered five more animations for various Wiley departments, along with three separate filming and editing projects.

Storyboard

Our storyboarding process is collaborative from the start. Once the script is ready, we arrange a call to discuss Wiley’s initial ideas and offer suggestions of our own. This early conversation helps us gather the assets we need and deepen our understanding of Wiley’s products. The storyboarding phase is divided into three stages: timings and music choice, asset creation, and animatic development. First, we produce a placeholder voiceover paired with music to plan out scenes. Next, we design the look and layout for each scene, always staying true to Wiley’s brand guidelines. Finally, we create an animatic, combining stills, music, and voiceover, so Wiley can see the pacing, flow, and overall feel before animation begins. We then review the animatic together, explaining our creative choices and making sure Wiley is fully on board before moving forward.

Animation

Once we receive feedback on the animatic, we make any necessary tweaks as we start animating the scenes. We always have a clear vision for the flow and movement, but we’re flexible and ready to adapt if technical challenges arise. Each scene transitions smoothly into the next, with every transition crafted to feel unique while remaining consistent with Wiley’s brand. We pay close attention to motion, easing, and velocity, ensuring a signature look and feel that’s recognisable across all Wiley animations. Throughout the process, we work closely with Wiley, refining structure, timing, and key messaging through structured feedback rounds. The finishing touches include detailed sound design and a balanced audio mix to enhance the viewer’s experience. We also produce social cutdowns tailored for LinkedIn and Instagram, adjusting pacing and framing while keeping everything in sync with the main animation.

Result

We’re genuinely proud of the animations we’ve created for Wiley. Together, we’ve helped define a fresh visual style for their brand and developed our own animation process along the way. The animations flow seamlessly and have been met with fantastic feedback from Wiley. Our work has sparked interest across multiple departments, leading to even more requests for animations and cementing a strong, ongoing partnership.
