Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

The showcase of a historic museum

What we did

Brief

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust approached us to produce a promotional video for their upcoming exhibition, Becoming Shakespeare. Their vision was to follow a family as they explore the exhibition, capturing their emotional reactions and interactions without revealing too much of the experience itself. The goal was to communicate the immersive and engaging nature of the exhibition while maintaining a sense of intrigue, encouraging potential visitors to discover it in person. Our brief included producing one main promotional video, along with multiple versions tailored for different platforms.

Planning

A strong concept needs a strong foundation, and that’s exactly what our planning phase provided. Casting the right family was important, and we worked closely with the Trust to find suitable talent that felt authentic. With a tight turnaround, one of the biggest challenges was securing the correct child performance licence, a process we managed quickly and efficiently to keep production on schedule. With child talent on set, we also ensured all safeguarding measures and legal requirements were fully met, maintaining a safe, professional, and fully compliant working environment on set.

An on site recce helped us visualise the space, plan our lighting approach, and refine our storyboard, ensuring our vision was aligned with the client’s initial concepts.

Shoot

Our crew, made up of two seasoned videographers, executed a one day shoot on location. We worked with lead talent and over 20 extras to authentically represent a vibrant visitor experience. Filming was conducted using two cinema grade cameras, allowing us to maintain both quality and efficiency. Guided by a detailed storyboard and shot list, the team employed a mix of lighting techniques and stabilisation tools, including gimbals, to ensure the final visuals were rich, cinematic, and immersive. Every frame was crafted to reflect the emotion and atmosphere of the exhibition.

Edit

The editing process focused on crafting a high quality promotional piece that would evoke the emotional journey of visitors. Our in-house post production team created the hero video and reworked it into multiple social media friendly formats (16:9, 9:16, and 1:1), including a shortened version designed specifically for Reels and Stories. Staying true to our pre production vision, we enhanced the emotional arc through thoughtful pacing, subtle sound design, and carefully selected royalty free music that underscored the mood without overpowering the visuals.

Result

The final deliverables were visually striking, emotionally resonant, and well optimised for social media distribution. The videos gained strong engagement across platforms and received highly positive feedback from both the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and their audience. We’re proud of how the project came together and thrilled to have helped promote such a culturally significant and immersive exhibition.
